CUHK Holds Naming Ceremony of Li Weibo Building, CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute

On October 23, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held the Naming Ceremony of Li Weibo Building, CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute in Shenzhen Virtual University Park in Nanshan District of Shenzhen. Chairman Li of Glory Harvest Group donated HK$ 30 million to CUHK. In appreciation of Chairman Li's years of support and great contributions to CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute and the construction of its main building, the University named the building Li Weibo Building, CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute.
 
A total of more than 300 persons attended the Ceremony, including politicians, academics and representatives of nonprofit organizations. CUHK President Shen Zuyao in his welcoming address expressed his sincere thanks to Chairman Li for his generous donations for the construction of the building in Shenzhen Research Institute, and he also spoke highly of Chairman Li for his support to educational research and his love for the students. President Shen expressed that the establishment of Shenzhen Research Institute brought more opportunities for CUHK's development in Shenzhen and mainland China. In return for Chairman Li' donations, CUHK named the building Li Weibo Building and set up a nameplate on it. 

Chairman Li also expressed thanks to CUHK for giving him such a platform and opportunity to requite the society and the education industry. "An ongoing source for a nation's development is cultivation of talents and R&D", said Chairman Li, "The improvement of Hong Kong and mainland China's international competiveness depends on ongoing investments in innovation and education." Chairman Li hoped that more and more people would join philanthropy and give support for education development. 

Chairman Li has donated a total of 70 million Yuan for charitable causes during the past few years. The money was used to help dropouts, poor students, the disabled, widowers, widows and many more, and was used for education, health care, environmental protection, poverty alleviation, disaster relief and other purposes. In order to build a systematic and lasting branded philanthropy platform, Chairman Li established the Shenzhen Li Weibo Charitable Foundation in 2013 and held the post of Permanent Honorary President. The Foundation would focus on fields such as education, graduate entrepreneurship, and orphan care. 

The nine-storey Li Wei Bo Building, CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute covers an area of 25,000 square meters. The Institute would focus on the development of CUHK's 16 design subjects in three areas, i.e., biomedicine, information technology and sustainable development.
