In recognition of Mr Li’s support and contributions to Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Shenzhen Research Institute, the institute’s newly constructed building is named Li Weibo Building. The ceremony was held in Nanshan Virtualization Technology Park. CUHK received a HKD $ 30M grant from Mr Li, which was used to fund the growth of the university and the construction of the institute’s new building.
Born and raised up in a
poor rural family from Dianbai, Guangdong, Mr. Li got his first job as a
construction labor at the age of 16 before he started working as a factory hand
in the printing industry. In 1981, Mr. Li came to Shenzhen and scored his first
pot of gold by starting a small business to supply construction materials. As
the president and chairman of the Glory Harvest Group, Mr. Li is always
passionate about philanthropy. Over the past years, Mr. Li has donated 70 million
yuan. In October 2013, Mr. Li established the Li Weibo Foundation in Shenzhen
to support education, university student entrepreneurs and the orphans’ welfare.
