Laos Weidagao International Co Ltd Tobacco Planting Demonstration Base – the infrastructure at the Mengbai base has already begun taking shape, and has now entered the initial seeding phase in preparation for the 2013 tobacco planting season.
As we entered the month of November, the fencing and drainage systems at the Baimeng base were basically already completed, as were the storehouse and simple sheds. Following the timely procurement of the first batch of goods at the end of October, the production department began work on the structural engineering for the seedling sheds, greenhouses and seedling pools, as well as the required irrigation system. In mid to late November, the electrical wiring and discharge pumps were also completed and put into operation. This enabled the structure of the wooden buildings to be finished, and the excavation work for the warehouse foundations to begin. All infrastructure work thus progressed in an orderly manner.
In terms of production, Laos Weidagao began their plowing work in early November, and began treating the moderately and strongly acidic soil with lime towards the end of the month. A few days ago, the liming of the demonstration land was completed, and a rotary tiller was used to stir and pulverize the soil. This marked the basic completion of seven sheds and pools for growing seedlings, including all necessary seedling trays and irrigation systems; sowing commenced on the 26th, as the seedling trays were placed into the pools. On the 23rd of November, the Mengkun contract farming area completed 60 seedling planting sheds ahead of schedule, covering a total area of 20 hectares of cropland. On the 24th, the production department thus prepared all relevant farming documents and agreements, and hurried over to the Mengkun area to carry out land surveys and contract signing.
