Benxi Daily: Benxi Iron Ore Reserve Claims the Largest in Asia

The iron ore found in Dataigou Village, Qiaotou Town with a reserve of more than 3 billion tons stunned the mining industry at home and abroad, and grabbed the attention of leaders of relevant national departments. On the evening of June 18, the Minister and Party Secretary of the Ministry of Land and Resources Xu Shaoshi and other leaders paid a special visit to the exploration site to visit the cadres and workers who are carrying out the exploration work day and night and had a site visit to the iron ore mine. Other leaders in the visit include Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Land and Resources and the Director General of the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping Xu Deming, Vice Director General of China Geological Survey Zhong Ziran, Director General of Shenyang Bureau of State Land Supervision Cui Yan. Provincial and municipal leaders include Vice Governor of Liaoning Province Zhao Guohong, Deputy Secretary General Zhou Wanchun, Director of the Department of Land and Resources of Liaoning Province Yan Jinlin, Vice Director Ji Fenglan, Director General of the Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources Exploration of Liaoning Province Yu Wenli, Mayor of Benxi Jiang Rui, Deputy Secretary of Benxi Municipal Committee Li Jingyang, Executive Member of Benxi Municipal Committee and Executive Deputy Mayor He Huanqiu and the Secretary General of Benxi municipal government Guan Shaowei.
Dataigou iron ore mine is found when the Benxi Bureau of Land and Resources conducted the regional geological survey and secondary development in Benxi based on 15 years of geological data. After reporting to the China Geological Survey, a professional geological team carried out the exploration. To identify this iron ore, the exploration team drilled 17 exploration holes, 12 of which were detected with the iron ore mine spanning an area of 4 kilometers in length and 3 kilometers in width. The iron ore mine is located between 1,200 meters and 1,860 meters underground. High-grade iron ore was even found at a depth of 2,015 meters. According to the topological survey at a scale of 1:2000, high-resolution magnetic survey at a scale of 1:10,000 and EH4 continual electric conductivity survey, the ore-hit depth is 100 to 1,200 meters, and depth of the drilled-hole finished is 1,701 to 2,015, both of which have not penetrated the ore body. The ore body is 1,200 meters in length, and 700 meters in width, both of which does not touch the boundaries of the ore body.
According to the exploration result, the identified iron ore reserve exceeds more than 3 billon tons, and if theoretically estimated, the reserve may double. The exploration is still underway. According to the experts, the iron ore reserve is about the sum of all iron ores in Anshan and Benxi. Dataigou iron ore features deep-buried depth, wide-spread ore body, steep obliquity and big scale of ore body. The iron ore is a mixture of magnetite and hematite, and as Asia's largest iron ore mine, the iron grade is between 25 percent and 62 percent according to the data of a dozen of exploration holes.
At 19:40, on arriving Benxi, Minister Xu Shaoshi directly made his way to Dataigou Village, Qiaotou Town, Pinshan District, and walked to the exploration drilling well on the mountain. He first extended a sincere greeting to the cadres and worker of the exploration team, and then carefully studied the exploration work. Afterwards, he intently listened to technician's report on the exploration and reserve estimation of Dataigou iron ore mine, and checked the exploited bore sample. Finally, he requested relevant departments to first evaluate the mineral resources within 2,000 meters underground, and conduct project design with the latest concept and thought so as to make contribution to national and local development as early as possible. The exploitation of Dataigou iron ore mine will lay a solid foundation for developing and strengthening steel & iron industry in Benxi.
