“Receiving greetings from the people I have helped makes me feel everything pays off”. Glory Harvest Group has started to provide long-term support to 100 families who are struggling with their finance in Luohu District since last year by offering each family 800 yuan every month. The group’s chairman Weibo Li always receives greetings from these families during holidays. Mr. Li has been involved in philanthropic works for many years and donated approximately 50 million yuan, which has encouraged his staff to actively participate in the charitable work to help people in need. “Giving makes me happier,” said a long-term participant.

Provide long-term support to 100 families in need

“Luohu is a blessed land and is the hometown of Glory Harvest Group”. Mr. Li has always kept this community in his mind and been actively but unostentatiously involved in the philanthropic activities. “Being raised up in a rural area, I am grateful that I was lucky to receive help from others and now become rich.” At the age of 16, Mr. Li got his first job as a construction labor. He came to Shenzhen in 1981 and scored his first pot of gold by starting a small business to supply construction materials before he entered the printing industry and established a company which was successfully listed in Hong Kong. In 2006, he founded Glory Harvest Group and expanded the company’s businesses into mining, real estate and hospitality industries. The Dataihgou Iron Ore Mine has been detected to hold over 5 billion tons of iron ore, making it Asia’s largest single iron ore mine. As the company grows, Mr. Li has been proactively involved in the charitable work. Since 2004, Mr. Li has made periodic donations to education institutes, medical service providers and charities. In 2012, Mr. Li donated 1 million yuan to support the poverty reduction work of Luohu community.

According to Mr. Zhi Zhang, the manager of administration department, the group is currently offering long term support to 100 families who are struggling with their finance by providing each family 800 yuan every month. The senior management teams will visit these families with their staff during holidays. “It is shocked to see people are still living in such poverty right next to the skyscrapers but it is also very encouraged to know that they are so optimistic.”

Giving it away is an initiative shared by the Glory Harvest Group

Inspired by Mr. Li’s story, charity has become an initiative of the group. After work, the group’s staff will voluntarily visit the families in need and the interaction with the people who are in need has also moved group’s staff.

Last Thanksgiving Day, the staff from Zense Hotel visited the children who were abandoned for birth defects and illnesses in Shenzhen Children’s Welfare Centre. Jingjing Li said, “We brought some candies to the kids, which made them very happy. They thanked us politely and they put the candy papers in the trash bin. This tiny detail was really impressive.” On April 19 this year, a group of volunteers from Glory Harvest Group went to Luoling Foreign Language Experimental School to assist the after school pick-up. Every Double Ninth Festival, the group’s volunteers will visit the seniors in Luohu Social Welfare Centre. “Giving makes me happier,” said a long-term volunteer from the group.
